Prologue
A dozen tentacles with dark red skin stain the concrete floor. In addition, the entire wall opposite is covered with green and blue slime-like monsters. The slimes have wide, bulging eyes and a huge mouth baring fangs. It's hard to believe they are creatures from Earth.
They're called demons, they're non-human.
They're the natural enemy of humans.
"Damn it."
"These guys are stubborn...!"
Facing the demons are a pair of men in suits. They are experts at exorcising demons, known as exorcists. In the dark night when the demons' powers are growing, they are battling the demons and the "enemies" who control them.
But now they're in a difficult situation.
"Uoooooo!"
One of the exorcists swung his sword, imbued with spiritual power, down with all his might. Five thick tentacles were cut off at once, and he was about to strike another blow - but...
"Argh!"
The slime on the wall spat out a liquid of the same color, and retreated. The liquid smoked and melted the floor. If it hit him head on, he wouldn't stand a chance.
Before he could attack again, the severed tentacles regenerated in an instant. The men clicked their tongues.
"What should we do?"
"We'll have to attack at the same time and destroy them all at once."
"I guess that's the only option."
"With the two of us at full power, we can do it."
They were by no means weak. Their fighting records were impeccable. If they were facing normal demons, they wouldn't have had this much trouble.
Yes, the demon they were facing now was not normal.
This was not much different from the level of a rare high-level demon that you might encounter once a year. It was already abnormal for a low-level demon to have this level of power. And this was the third time they had encountered such a demon this month, which was a high pace.
Kyoto was the spiritually safest city in Japan, with a team of skilled exorcists.
The myth of that safety was beginning to crumble.
"Let's go."
But they couldn't just be afraid. They couldn't let the peaceful lives of ordinary people be shattered. In addition, they had their pride as the protectors of the capital.
The moment they both readied their weapons, swallowed, unleashed their spiritual powers, and were about to step in...
"Yaaah!"
A black shadow jumped out from the side.
In an instant, the tentacles exploded.
The exorcists narrowed their eyes, wondering what was going on.
Standing in the middle of the scattering tentacle flesh was a girl.
Her tall, slender figure was wrapped in a black nun's habit. However, it was not an ordinary one. Her ankle-length tunic had slits to allow for easier movement. Her natural golden hair peeked out from under the hood. Her fair skin and beautiful features brimmed with confidence.
For a nun, everything about her was flashy.
Under the habit, her large breasts pointed upwards as if to assert themselves. Perhaps because her clothes were fitted in size, the shape of her large butt was clearly visible. Even the exorcists in the middle of the battle were captivated by her voluptuous body.
However, to the slime stuck to the wall, she showed no mercy. Rather, it was the woman. It is the nature of demons to capture women, torture them, rape them, impregnate them, and use them as breeding grounds for new demons. The body of this nun was perfectly suited to that purpose. Furthermore, strong spiritual power is a necessary condition for giving birth to even stronger demons. There was no doubt that she was an exorcist. A perfect opponent.
Yes, it was natural for the demon to think so.
However, the sister was also someone who should not be dealt with.
"Shoot!"
As she turned around, she pulled out a pistol and fired a bullet. Her armament was far too weak to face the wall of slimes. The future of being swallowed up by the attacking slimes was fast approaching.
--Or so it should have been.
The slime, who had been sure of victory, disintegrated the moment the bullet touched it. Unless the spiritual power contained in the bullet was extremely high, it would not have been possible to defeat a demon with such quality and quantity. In shock, the duo of exorcists spoke.
The sister turned around and asked,
"Are you okay? Are you hurt?"
She was clearly Western in appearance, but the words that came out of her mouth were Japanese. Although shaken, the exorcist nodded and said, "Yes."
Next, he tried to ask the girl who she was. He knew she was an ally. But he hadn't heard anything about a girl like this being stationed in this area.
"You--"
The man's question was cut off.
The tentacle that he had supposedly smashed to pieces had begun to regenerate. And its tip was aimed at the girl. He couldn't make it in time at this distance. If she were taken hostage, it would be more than just trouble.
The men's help didn't arrive.
However, a new shadow appeared and instantly chopped the tentacle into pieces. In his hand was a knife with a blade length of about 20 centimeters.
He was still a young boy. He called out to the sister.
"You're getting ahead of yourself, Lina."
"Yuuji~♡ Thank you~♡"
"Wa-pu"
The boy had a somewhat gloomy aura and a grim expression, but the sister called Lina didn't show any sign of worry and embraced him. The boy's face was buried in her twin hills.
"You idiot, this is the scene where that demon manifests."
"So it’s fine if it’s not at this scene."
"I never said anything like that."
The boy pulled Lina away and turned to the exorcists.
--He was a familiar face.
"Sorry, was I being overbearing?"
"No, thanks for helping me out, Shindo."
Shindo Yuuji. Still a high school student, he was a promising young exorcist. But his eyes were sharp, and not like a boy his age. --Even adults would shudder at the sight of someone who had seen hell.
"But why are you here?"
"It's because of this girl's amulet. --Come on, say hello."
He grabbed Lina by the scruff of her neck, Yuuji made her bow to the seniors.
This girl was no longer girlish, but was already fully grown as an adult woman, and the men swallowed their saliva. Her ample breasts, narrow waist, and easy-birth-type hips were not clearly visible in the midst of the battle. Even in this situation, the men felt sexual excitement. It was shameful, but they couldn't stop it.
Whether she knew about the suffering of the exorcists or not, Lina smiled and introduced herself.
"I'm Lina Alexander, an exorcist shrine maiden who returned from America. Let's protect Kyoto together from today. ☆"
○
"Hey, hey, Yuuji, let's go eat somewhere on the way home! I want to eat matcha pudding!"
"No shop is open anymore. I'll show you around tomorrow."
"Really? You promise."
Yuuji retorts, wondering if she can even go out into the city dressed like that. But Lina just smiles and doesn't care. She wraps her arm around Yuuji's and presses him against her. She doesn't care if the shape of her breasts changes.
Yuuji and Lina trained together as exorcists when they were young. After that, Lina went to America, where her parents were from, and they met again just the other day. Yuuji was taken aback by how much she had "grown up."
"You're just pulling me here and there all of a sudden."
"But you said those people were saved, didn't you? Good judgment!"
"That's hindsight. I can't stand to watch you get so dangerous."
"I trusted you because I had Yuuji."
Yuuji sighed at Lina's lack of remorse. Then he spoke in a sharp voice.
"I can't team up with someone who lets their guard down."
It wasn't sarcastic, it was serious.
"I’m not letting my guard down."
Lina took it head on. Yuuji tried to snort and say, "I don't know, but we can’t be letting our guard down." Lina's eyes were shining brightly.
Yuuji turned forward and changed the direction of the conversation.
"Do you understand? The current situation in Kyoto."
"... Yes."
Lina's relaxed expression tightened in an instant.
"Someone is pulling the strings behind the scenes."
"Yeah."
The demons we were dealing with tonight were not naturally occurring ones. Such things could not survive in Kyoto, the home of the "Princess."
If that's the case, where did those demons come from? Who is secretly operating behind the scenes?
There's only one answer.
An enemy of exorcists.
An enemy of human society, despite being the same human.
--A curse user [Sorcerer].
A sorcerer is lurking in this city.
"Maybe--"
Yuuji tried to mutter.
"Maybe?"
"No, nothing."
He didn't say it until the end. Lina glanced at Yuuji's expression from the side, but didn't press him further.
Because she knew what he was thinking.
The incident from a year ago that had led Lina to Japan.
The reason he had moved from Tokyo to Kyoto.
The face of another childhood friend came to Lina's mind. A friend who was not here, a friend who had disappeared.
There was no point in thinking about it here and now.
But he couldn't help thinking about it.
Before he knew it, he had returned to the shrine where he was staying.
She passed through the torii gate and made his way into the grounds.
In the darkness, automatic lights lit up the cobblestones.
Even though it was the middle of the night, a shrine maiden was waiting for him.
"Welcome back... Yuuji-nii-sama..."
The girl bowed deeply. Reflexively, Yuuji bowed back.
Even Lina, who was usually carefree, became timid in front of her.
She was none other than the "princess" who protected the capital of Kyoto.
The one at the top of Japan's exorcists.
Hououin Sakura, that person.
I would protect her. Only her. No matter what.
That was the resolve that Shindou Yuuji held in his heart.
